I’ve never seen a picture of junji ito in my life but I can only assume this is him because that sentence instantly gave me flashbacks

Oh some of you missed it, okay, so this movie was set to hit theaters exactly when all theaters were shut down for the quarantine and rather than delay it they took a chance at releasing it direct to home streaming from day one, the first time a major studio has ever done so, and yeah the numbers can be chalked up heavily to families stuck at home with nothing to do but they still weren’t expecting it to make 100 million dollars in just a couple weeks, especially not when the whole family just has to pay for it once instead of a bunch of tickets.

It was such a STAGGERING success that it opened up discussion over whether movies actually need theaters anymore, whether the profits are only being held back by how much time, energy and money it takes for consumers to arrange a whole trip out to see a new release, and pretty much the only real conclusion being drawn is a resounding “yes, and that should have been patently obvious.”

It had more studios rush to put things out for streaming and they continue to be making more money than they ever imagined, even factoring in all that collective cabin fever.

Trolls World Tour might go down as one of the most important, industry-shattering works in cinematic history.

the best dog trait is when herding breeds just try to herd children. nothing is funnier than a very confused slightly panicked toddler staring at you for answers and help as some well meaning aussie nips at their heels and tries to direct them to an absolutely arbitrary location

a child: help

me: i’m sorry but if that border collie wants you to stand by the picnic table, who am I to question that

viggo mortensen’s appeal as aragorn is 70% the voice, 25% the scene where the wild horse saves him from drowning, 12% hair, 8% ‘the beacons are lit!’, 3% swinging around the broken blade, 1.03% spitting soup back into the bowl on a windy day, .3% the way he speaks elvish (which mostly fits into the voice, but its elvish so its special), and .0004% when he kicks the orc head and screams

This is blatant “smoking a pipe with his hood on in Bree” and “shoving the double doors of helm’s deep open” erasure and I will not stand for it.

Yeah, the helm’s deep double doors is at LEAST 15%.

I think people often underestimate the potential educational value of senseless memes. For example, thanks to Spiders Georg, literally every teenager on Tumblr has a reasonable grasp of what a statistical outlier is and the sorts of problems that outliers can introduce into a naïve analysis. There are grown adults who don’t get that - I deal with them on a daily basis.

“Memes have educational value” actually statistical error. Average meme teaches 0 facts. Spiders Georg is an outlier adn should not be counted
